Whether your application is an acoustic guitar pickup into a porta-studio or thousands of dollars of synths and samplers recorded direct-to-disk, the Demeter Tube Direct Box provides the highest fidelity available. The original single-channel Tube Direct Box (VTDB-2B) is our most popular tube direct box. Used in the studio and on the road over twenty years, this is the choice for flexibility, portability and economy. It has the extremely high input impedance and tremendous headroom necessary to prevent loading and to preserve the wide dynamic range of the instrument. What are some applications of the Tube Direct Box? The Tube Direct Box is being used by top artists, producers and engineers because it enables the true, uncolored sound of electric and amplified acoustic instruments to emerge. Here are some specific applications: Acoustic guitar: the extremely high impedance (over 20 M) of the Tube Direct insures a perfect match with every pickup to provide a warmer, more natural sound-both live and in the studio. The TT-800 is the culmination of our 50 years of bass amplifier design, presented in a two-channel, tube preamp format to bring bass players our two most revered signature bass sounds. Channel One brings the legendary tube-tone from our world famous 400+ into the modern realm of compact size, lightweight and affordability, while Channel Two expands upon our current classis, the Subway preamp - Both Channels featured “Tri-Tube Topology” comprised of a trio of 12AT7s, thus the name. All of this tube-tone glory and goodness is then fed into our powerful and accurate 800-watt, Class D power amp, making the TT-800 the most expressive and versatile Subway to date – All in a small package that weighs only about 7-pounds!!! Excellent support of the low B fundamental of 5 string instruments. A selective crossover point overcomes the “beaming” (pattern narrowing) effects of a full range signal being reproduced by larger low frequency drivers. Lowers midrange and high frequency distortion by allowing the use of small, high performance cone transducers that would otherwise be unsuitable without the increased acoustic sensitivity obtained by the array design. This design provides a more open, smoother midrange and high frequency response because of the ideal natural characteristics of the mid-high frequency array when compared to a conventional tweeter that cannot reproduce the crucial midrange frequencies without pattern control or un-natural distortion. What this means in the context of performance is the most focused, defined, musical, smooth and seamless response possible throughout the BA12-3’s entire full-range bandwidth. Additionally the placement of the Line Array in front of the 12” woofer further provides a type of “single point source” projection—think of it as concentric speakers, one inside of the other, in the same linear plane. Also due to line array principals the all-important mid and high frequencies have a much wider horizontal dispersion with a more controlled vertical pattern. This offers the most even projection possible around the perimeter of the stage and audience. Although the same size as many 2 x 10” and tweeter cabinets, this innovative design blends the punch and quickness of premium Neodymium dual 10” drivers, in a vented bass reflex enclosure, and the performance and pattern control of a 4 x 3” Neodymium paper cone driver line array element. The placement of the line array in front, and between the 10” woofers further provides an extremely broad projection pattern, immediate quickness and articulation that is not possible with standard 2×10” designs. Also due to line array principals the all-important mid and high frequencies have a much wider horizontal dispersion with a more controlled vertical pattern. This offers the most even projection possible around the perimeter of the stage and audience. The benefits of this design platform are exponential for the player: Delivering full, deep, low frequency response from the high efficiency dual 10” woofers — doing what they do best, providing excellent support of the fundamental for the lower strings of the instrument. Using a selective crossover point this design overcomes the “beaming” (pattern narrowing) effects of a full range signal being reproduced by larger low frequency drivers which is common in many current small cabinet designs. Lowering midrange and high frequency distortion by allowing the use of small, 3” high performance cone transducers that would otherwise be unsuitable without the increased acoustic sensitivity obtained by the array design. Providing a much more open, smoother midrange and high frequency response because of the ideal natural characteristics of the mid-high frequency array when compared to a conventional tweeter that cannot reproduce the crucial midrange frequencies without pattern control or un-natural distortion. What’s Old is New Again In 1982 James Demeter built the first of his series of VTBP-201 pre-amps. His idea was to build a Tube Audiophile Pre-amp with Classic Bass Amp style tone section. There were other Pre-amps at the time but they were just guitar amp circuits that had major design flaws. His first customer was Leland Sklar. Lee took our proto-type to try it out and kept it. Lee used the pre-amp and it’s backup for another 25 years until he downsized his rig. In 2012 He decided to donate the #1 Pre-amp back to its creator. We were very happy to see it back and of course we had to listen to it. We were amazed how warm and clear it was. It sounded very similar to the current VTBP-201 but it was rounder and a bit slower than the newest model due it unregulated power supply and old school parts. Around the same time we found 150 of the original PCB’s that were used in that model. We decided to clone Lee’s pre-amp but, put it in the smallest box possible with our 800D power-amp. The result is the VTBP-M-800D. At 10.5 lbs. It is one 800 Watt tube tone monster.
